Diabetes & obesity open day
On Thursday November 7th 2019, the Faculty Diabetes Centre and the PHYM department opened their doors and invited interested people to learn more about diabetes.
From 9:30am to 18pm, about 400 people from various horizons attended this special day. They met many researchers and clinicians from the University and discovered the progress of research in the area of the diabetes.
This open day presented to the public the functioning of the disease with a panel of conferences, laboratory visits and hands-on workshops. Guessing the amount of sugar in the aliments, watching the cells which secret insulin and discovering the importance of the day-night alternation : these are few examples of the various topics presented.
In the afternoon, the organizers had the unexpected visit of the State Councillor in charge of the Department of Safety, Employment and Health: M. Mauro Poggia. This pleasant visit allowed him to meet several UNIGE scientists involved in diabetes.
