An enthusiastic lecture from Prof. Philippe Connes

On Wednesday 24th of September 2025, Prof. Philippe CONNES, Faculty of Medicine, University of Lyon, France, invited by Prof. Nicolas DEMAUREX gave an enthusiastic lecture entitled "Blood rheology and vascular function in sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease: from pathophysiological mechanisms to clinical usefulness".

Sickle cell disease, the most common genetic disease worldwide, is caused by a mutation in one of the haemoglobin-coding genes. The talk discussed the cellular, biological and physiological mechanisms involved in complications of sickle cell disease. Professor Philippe Connes also presented his findings on patients who carry the mutation in only one copy of the implicated gene.
