CURRICULUM VITAE (ENGLISH BELOW)

Sandrine Kott est professeure d’histoire contemporaine de l’Europe à l’université de Genève depuis 2004. Elle a fait ses études en France (agrégée d’histoire et docteur habilitée à diriger des recherches de l’université de Paris I Sorbonne), en Allemagne : université de Bielfeld et aux Etats Unis (université de Columbia). Elle a été maître de conférences d’histoire contemporaine à l’université de Poitiers (1992 et 2004) et membre de l'Institut Universitaire de France (1997-2001).

Elle est chercheure associée au centre interdisciplinaire de recherche centre européennes (CIRCE, Paris IV) et au centre de recherches en sciences sociales, Marc Bloch à Berlin. Elle est membre du conseil (Beirat) du Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung à Potsdam/Berlin et siège dans le panel histoire du European Research Council. Elle a été professeure invitée à l’université Humboldt de Berlin, L’université de Santa Barabara (Californie) et l’Ecole Normale Supérieure (Paris).

Elle participe au comité de rédaction de Genèses, sciences sociales et histoire et du Journal of Modern European History. Elle dirige avec Delphine Bechtel et Claire Gantet la collection Europes centrales aux éditions Belin (12 volumes publiés). Ses domaines de recherche principaux sont l’histoire sociale et culturelle des pratiques philanthropiques et de l’Etat social en France et en Allemagne, la socio-histoire des pays communistes et post-communistes d’Europe centrale. Elle est travaille actuellement sur la circulation des savoirs et savoirs faire en matière de politique sociale dans l’espace européen durant la période de la Guerre froide. Outre plus de 80 articles et contributions dans des revues et ouvrages en français, allemand et anglais, elle a publié les ouvrages suivants : L’Etat social allemand représentations et pratiques, Paris, Belin, (temps présents), 1995, L’Allemagne du XIXe siècle, Paris, Hachette (Carré), 1999, Le communisme au quotidien. Sandrine Kott is professor of European contemporary history at the University of Geneva since 2004. She has studied History in Paris (Phd in 1990, habilitation in 2001), the university of Bielefeld, (FRG), and Columbia (New-York). She has taught history as an assistant professor at the university of Poitiers (France) and been awarded junior fellow at the Institut universitaire de France in Paris (1997-2002).

She is a member of the Beirat of the Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung (Potsdam/Berlin). And has been a visiting professor at the Humboldt-university (Berlin), the University of Santa Barbara (California) and the Ecole Normale Supérieure (Paris). She is member of the Academia Europeae (Academy of Europe). www.acadeuro.org.

She acts in the editorial board of the following journals: Genèses, sciences sociales et histoire and Journal of Modern European History. She is the editor of a series: “Europes centrales” by the “editions Belin”, Paris which has already published 12 volumes. (http://www.editions-belin.com/ewb_pages/r/rechercheavancee.php?rech_go=1&collection=Europes%20Centrales) Her principal fields of expertise are the history of social welfare and labor law in France and Germany since the end of the nineteenth century and labor relations in those countries of real socialism, in particular in the German Democratic Republic. She has developed the transnational and global dimensions of each of her fields of expertise in utilizing the archives and resources of international organizations and particularly the International Labor Organization.

She has published over 80 articles in French, German and American journals and collective volumes, edited 4 volumes (in French, Polish and German) and published the following books: L’État social allemand. Focusing on the ILO, this volume explores its role as creator of international social networks and facilitator of exchange between various national and international actors since its establishment in 1919. It emphasizes the role played by the ILO in the international circulation of ideas, expertise and practices that foster the emergence and shaping of international social models, and examines the impact of its methods and models on national and local societies.
