Eighth IP & Innovation Researchers of Asia (IPIRA) Conference
(January 29-30, 2026)

On January 29 and 30 2026, the Faculty of Law had the pleasure to co-organize the Eighth IP & Innovation Researchers of Asia (IPIRA) Conference, which took place at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. This year’s edition of the Conference welcomed over 300 scholars amongst speakers, chairs, and attendees from around the world (Asia-Pacific, North and South America, Europe, and Africa). The Conference was graced by high-level (recorded) remarks by Mr. Edwin Tong SC, the Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs of Singapore, and keynotes (also recorded) from Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO, and Mrs. Johanna Hill, Deputy Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). In addition, Mr. Tan Kong Hwee, Chief Executive of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), delivered an in-person keynote address at the opening of the Conference.
The IPIRA Network is an initiative created to provide a forum for IP researchers to discuss their papers and works-in-progress with other academics, practitioners, and policy makers. The eight IPIRA Conference was organized in cooperation with the Singapore University of Social Sciences, with the support of the following academic institutions:
the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia; the Division of Business Law, Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University; Foreign Trade University; the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia; the Faculty of Law, Waseda University; Texas A&M University School of Law and our Faculty of Law, University of Geneva. The Conference was additionally supported by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI), AIPPI (Singapore) and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS).
Our Faculty of Law was represented at IPIRA 2026 by Prof. Irene Calboli, Academic Fellow at the Faculty of Law (who is the initiator of the IPIRA Network and Conference) and Prof. Jacques de Werra. This eight IPIRA Conference was, like all the previous editions, a remarkably successful event. The organizers very much look forward to the ninth IPIRA Conference that will take place at the Royal University of Law and Economics in Cambodia in 2027. Information about IPIRA 2027 will be communicated in due time on this website.
