Jorge César Correia
Jorge César Correia is a medical doctor trained in endocrinology and diabetology at the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), and holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Endocrinology with distinction from Queen Mary University of London. Since 2013, he has been actively involved in research and implementation projects focused on obesity and diabetes management, therapeutic patient education, and digital health. He defended his MD thesis at the University of Geneva in 2019 and currently serves as Chief Resident in the unit of therapeutic patient education at the HUG, where he combines clinical care, teaching, and research.
His work integrates clinical expertise with implementation science and global health perspectives. He has collaborated with the World Health Organisation (WHO), led field projects in sub-Saharan Africa, and contributed to several international education and digital health initiatives. He has authored over 40 scientific publications and continues to develop multidisciplinary strategies to support long-term self-management for people living with obesity and diabetes.
RESEARCH AIMS
His research aims to improve the quality and sustainability of diabetes care through the enhancement of therapeutic patient education, particularly in underserved settings. His work focuses on designing, evaluating, and scaling structured education programmes adapted to both high-income and low-resource contexts.
Current projects explore the development of competency-based curricula for healthcare professionals, integration of digital tools to support long-term self-management, strategies to prevent weight regain after GLP-1 agonist withdrawal, and the use of smart footwear to reduce diabetic foot complications.
Adopting a patient-centred and transdisciplinary approach, he seeks to translate research into practical solutions that ensure equitable access to diabetes innovations. His methodology combines clinical expertise, implementation science, and global health perspectives to advance time-sensitive, scalable, and real-world solutions for metabolic health.
