Professor Timothy Frayling is the academic coordinator of the Diabetes Centre and a Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva. A human geneticist with a PhD earned in 1998, he specialises in the genetics and genomics of common metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and obesity. With several decades of experience in molecular diagnostics and genetic research, including leadership roles at the University of Exeter, he now leads a team using genetics, bioinformatics, and clinical studies to better understand and address the mechanisms of metabolic diseases.
At the Faculty Diabetes Centre, Professor Frayling brings extensive expertise in genetic risk factors and the discovery of therapeutic targets for metabolic diseases. His leadership in integrating large-scale genetic data with clinical research strengthens the Centre’s ability to translate fundamental discoveries into improved patient care. He fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and supports the training and mentorship of early-career researchers, enriching the Centre’s academic environment.
