Synapsy PhD students shine at PhD Booster 2025

The seventh edition of the PhD Booster competition organized by the Faculty of Medicine (FacMed) at the University of Geneva (UNIGE) has just taken place. The aim of the competition is to train doctoral students from FacMed and the Faculty of Science in scientific communication by asking them to create a short video on their thesis topic. The prize? A grant of CHF 4,000 to motivate them to continue their academic careers.

Riccardo Galli, When Half the World Is Missing: Re-educating the Brain After a Stroke

Among the five winning videos is one by Ricardo Galli, a PhD student in Patrik Vuilleumier's laboratory and member of the Synapsy Center. Congratulations to him! In his presentation, Riccardo Galli describes neurofeedback, an innovative therapy for treating people who have suffered a stroke and show signs of attention disorders. This technique allows patients to train themselves to increase activity in the areas of the brain affected by the stroke, thereby reducing their symptoms. Riccardo is currently working on developing a portable version of this technology so that patients can access it at any time.

We would also like to acknowledge the participation of Luigi Francesco Saccaro, the second member of Synapsy to take part in this competition, who presented an excellent video on emotional dysregulation.
