Department of Basic Neuroscience
Synapsy Centrer for Neuroscience and Mental Health Research

Nathalie Ginovart earned a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Claude Bernard University in Lyon in 1994. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in psychiatric neuroimaging at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, where she specialized in molecular imaging applied to psychiatric disorders.

In 1999, she was appointed assistant professor at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health at the University of Toronto. There, she developed innovative tools and molecular imaging methods for the in vivo study of central monoaminergic systems.

In 2005, she joined the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine at UNIGE, where she expanded her neuroimaging research program. Her work aims to better understand the neurobiological mechanisms and biological, behavioral, and environmental vulnerability factors involved in the development of addictions.

Deeply committed to teaching, she co-leads a third-year neuroscience course. Appointed associate professor in 2015, then affiliated with the Department of Fundamental Neuroscience in 2020, she was promoted to full professor in February 2026.
