FTI Programmes


The Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI) is known for the quality of its programmes and its diplomas.

We offer complete training in the fields of translation, conference interpreting, and multilingual information processing, from the BA in Multilingual Communication, through the MA in Translation, the MA in Multilingual Communication Technology and the MA in Conference Interpreting, to the doctoral programme.

Masters graduates from the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting go on to work in Switzerland and abroad. They play an important role in both development and communication in economic, political, scientific, technical and cultural domains, while at the same time respecting linguistic differences and cultural particularities. They are sought after to work in international organisations such as the UN and the European Union, public institutions and the legal system. They also work in the private sector, either in permanent positions or as free-lancers.



Bachelor of Arts in Multilingual Communication

The Faculty offers several degree programmes. The Bachelor of Arts in Multilingual Communication comprises the first stage of qualification in translation and interpretation.

Complementary Certificate programme in Sign Language

The Faculty's Complementary Certificate programme in Sign Language is open to all applicants who hold a Bachelor in Multilingual Communication from the FTI, or a degree that is deemed to be equivalent, and who wish to add Sign Language to their language combination.

Students awarded the Faculty's Bachelor of Arts in Multilingual Communication gain direct access to the Master of Arts in Translation.

Master of Arts in Multilingual Communication Technology

The Master of Arts in Multilingual Communication Technology is intended for people who hold a BA in translation, communication, linguistics, computer science, the arts, or any other field that is relevant to multilingual language processing. Admission will be based on your application.

The Faculty's Complementary Certificate in Translation provides further qualifications to students who have successfully completed a Master of Arts in Translation.

Doctorate

The Masters of Arts in Translation, Multilingual Communication Technology and Conference Interpreting give access to doctoral studies in translation studies, multilingual information processing, conference interpreting and multilingual communication management.

Continuing Education

As part of the University of Geneva’s Continuing Education programme, the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting offers Continuing Education degree or certificate courses in translation studies, translation methodology, as well as in economic, legal, technical, or writing skills (in active or passive languages), technical writing, literary translation, machine-assisted translation (MAT), terminology and interpreting.
