Giovanni Merlo
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
I am an Assistant Professor at the Philosophy Department of the University of Geneva, where I lead an SNSF Starting Grant project entitled 'Metaphysics We Can Believe In' (2024-2029).
Before starting this project, I held an SNSF Ambizione grant in Geneva (2020-2024), and was a postdoctoral researcher in Stirling (2017-2020) and Hamburg (2015-2017).
I completed my PhD in philosophy at the University of Barcelona in 2015, after obtaining a BPhil in philosophy at the University of Oxford (2010) and a BA in philosophy at the University of Padua (2008).
My research focuses on issues at the intersection of metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and epistemology – particularly, having to do with subjectivity and the first-person perspective. I also have a special interest in the philosophy of Leibniz.
