Joanna Sobocinska
Tearing down lung cancer cells’ protective shield
Joanna is originally from Poland, where she obtained both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in medical biotechnology. During her studies, she took part in several projects focused on the molecular biology of cancer, which sparked her passion for fundamental and translational oncology research. She therefore decided to deepen her expertise by pursuing a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences in the laboratory of Professor Muriel Cuendet. Her thesis focuses on the role of HDAC6 in lung cancer - how this protein influences tumor cell behavior and their response to treatments, and aims to determine whether inhibiting HDAC6 could be a promising strategy for combination therapy.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends, as well as photography, which she uses to capture landscapes and everyday moments, finding in these activities a balance between scientific rigor and creative expression.
