The Mystery of Dreams
What are dreams for? What do they reveal about our brains and our experiences? At the intersection of neuroscience and psychiatry, the study of dreams explores the dialogue between brain activity and subjective experience, opening up new perspectives for understanding the origins of emotions, mental images, and nocturnal narratives, as well as their functions.
To kick off the spring semester, the University of Geneva is pleased to welcome Sophie Schwartz, professor of neuroscience, and Lampros Perogamvros, professor of psychiatry and Synapsy PI, both affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine. The lecture, entitled:
The Mystery of Dreams
Between Neuroscience and Psychiatry
will take place on
Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.,
at Uni Dufour – U600
This opening lecture will explore dreams, their role in our mental balance, and the ability of the sleeping brain to imagine new futures. It will offer a scientific perspective on how the dreaming brain constructs images, narratives, and emotions, while placing individual experience at the center of this dialogue between specialists.
