Doctoral Program in Contemporary History
The Doctoral Programme in Contemporary History (PDHC) brings together the history units of the four universities of Western Switzerland and IHEID. It is aimed at doctoral students in contemporary history and has the following general objectives:
- to place doctoral students in contemporary history in an intellectual environment and a collective dynamic conducive to a co-construction of skills and socialisation in the disciplinary field and its networks;
- to ensure their integration into a scientific and professional community by setting up regular meetings around their research themes;
- to facilitate contacts and dialogue between doctoral students in contemporary history;
- to enrich the training of doctoral students through methodological and thematic modules;
- to enable doctoral students to harmoniously combine a specialisation in the field of thesis and a wider familiarity with emerging themes in contemporary history;
- to provide doctoral students with the means and tools necessary to compile scientific dossiers for scholarship applications, both in Switzerland and abroad;
- to give doctoral students the possibility of taking charge of the organisation of colloquia;
- to familiarise doctoral students with strategies for publishing and promoting research;
- to teach doctoral students how to develop, implement and defend a large-scale research project, reconciling scientific requirements and creativity, depending on the institutions and sources of research funding, including stays abroad.
