Diplomas, credits and academic recognition

Types of diplomas

  • The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Humanitarian Action is our most comprehensive programme, combining residential and online components, elective courses, and a dissertation (60 ECTS).
  • The Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) in Humanitarian Action is a three-month residential programme in Geneva (30 ECTS).
  • The Certificates of Advanced Studies (CAS) are shorter, degree-granting programmes focused on specific competencies (10 ECTS).
  • Executive Short Courses (ESC) are intensive two-week courses (2 ECTS). They are non-degree programmes but lead to a certificate of completion.

ECTS credits

Our programmes follow the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), which ensures transparency and recognition of study across European higher education institutions. Credits reflect the estimated student workload, including contact hours, self-study and assessment.

Recognition

As part of the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Medicine, our diplomas are officially recognised within the Swiss and European higher education frameworks. While they do not provide direct access to a PhD (which requires a Master of Arts or Master of Science of 120 ECTS), they are internationally valued qualifications for professional advancement in the humanitarian sector.
