Enos Bernasconi studied medicine in Zurich. After training in internal medicine and infectious diseases, he joined the Regional Hospital in Lugano, where he is Deputy Head of Internal Medicine and Head of the Infectious Diseases Department. His research activity is mainly related to the Swiss HIV Cohort Study, of which he has been a member since 1996, and which has led him to publish over 300 original works. For 7 years, Enos Bernasconi chaired the Federal Commission for AIDS-Related Problems (CFPA). His main areas of expertise are lipodystrophy and dyslipidaemia associated with antiretroviral treatment, HIV co-morbidities and viral hepatitis. In collaboration with the HUG HIV/AIDS Unit, he also contributed to organising and running the multidisciplinary "Group Lipo" consultation, which is aimed at all people living with HIV undergoing antiretroviral treatment. In 2008, he was appointed privat-docent of the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine, and in 2012 adjunct professor in the Department of Medicine. He retires from the Faculty of Medicine in September 2025.
