Karine Duplan (PhD) est une géographe sociale et culturelle de l’urbain qui se dédie aux questions d'inclusion sociale et de droit à la ville, avec une expertise spécifique sur le genre, la sexualité et la migration. Elle est maître-assistante et collaboratrice de recherche à la Faculté des sciences de la société de l'Université de Genève depuis 2016, à la fois au Département de géographie et environnement de l'Institut d'études genre. Karine Duplan est également membre de l'Institut de gouvernance environnementale et de développement territorial, de l'Institut de la citoyenneté et du Hub urbain. Elle est par ailleurs membre du comité du Certificat complémentaire en études de la citoyenneté depuis 2022 et du Comité d'éthique de la Faculté des sciences de la société de l'Université de Genève depuis 2017. Elle a également été membre de la Commission universitaire d'éthique (CUREG) de 2017 à 2022 et membre du jury du Prix de recherche sur le genre du Service égalité & diversité de l'Université de Genève, de 2019 à 2021.

Karine Duplan est titulaire d'un doctorat en géographie politique et culturelle de l'Université Paris-Sorbonne (Paris-IV). Elle a été chercheuse associée au Luxembourg Institute for SocioEconomic Research (LISER), chargée de cours au Département de Géosciences de l’Université de Neuchâtel (CH), chercheuse post-doctorante à l’Institut de géographie de l’Université de Neuchâtel (CH) et collabore toujours avec la Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidentale de Genève.

Karine Duplan est membre élu de la Commission pour le genre et la géographie de l'Union géographique internationale, l'organisation mondiale qui vise à relier les géographes du monde entier. Au niveau local, elle est cofondatrice et membre coordinatrice du groupe « Géographies féministes » de l'Association suisse de géographie (ASG), qui rassemble des géographes féministes au-delà des frontières linguistiques et académiques de la Suisse. Elle est également membre du comité éditorial et en charge des recensions de la revue plurilingue de géographie critique Geographica Helvetica et membre du comité scientifique de la revue bilingue Justice spatiale/Spatial Justice. Elle est également membre du groupe Gender and Sexuality in Migration research (GenSeM) d’IMISCOE – International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion.

En 2024, Karine est nommée par le Fonds national suisse de la recherche scientifique comme « Outstanding Female Academic ».
Pour 2024-2025, elle est chercheuse invitée à l'Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, avec une collaboration avec Marianne Blidon. En janvier 2025, Karine est chercheuse invitée au City Institute at York University (CITY), Toronto, Canada, avec une collaboration avec Alison Bain.

Karine Duplan (PhD) is an urban social and cultural geographer dedicated to issues of social inclusion and the right to the city, with specific expertise in gender, sexuality, and migration. She has been senior lecturer and researcher at the School of Social Sciences of the University of Geneva since 2016, in both the Department of Geography and Environment of the Institute of Gender Studies. Karine Duplan is also a member of the Institute of Environmental Governance and Territorial Development, the Institute of Citizenship and the Urban Hub. She is moreover a member of the committee of the Complementary Certificate in Citizenship Studies since 2022 and of the Committee on Ethics of the School of Social Sciences at the University of Geneva since 2017. She has also been a member of the University Committee on Ethics (CUREG) from 2017 to 2022 and a jury member for the Gender Research Prize of the Equality & Diversity Service of the University of Geneva, from 2019 to 2021.

Karine Duplan holds a doctorate in political and cultural geography from Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris-IV). She has been Associate Researcher at the Luxembourg Institute of SocioEconomic Research (LISER), Lecturer at the Department of Geosciences at the University of Fribourg (CH),Post-doctoral Researcher and Lecturer at the Institute of Geography at the University of Neuchâtel (CH) and is still collaborating with the Western Switzerland University of Applied Sciences in Geneva.

Karine Duplan is an elected board member of the International Geographical Union’s Commission for Gender and Geography, the worldwide organisation that aims to connect geographers all around the world. At the local scale, she is co-founder and coordinating member of the Swiss Association for Geography’s (ASG) Feminist Geographies group, that gathers feminist geographers across Swiss languages and academic boundaries. She is also editorial board member and book review editor for the plurilingual journal of critical geography Geographica Helvetica and member of the scientific board committee of the bilingual journal Justice spatiale/Spatial Justice.

In 2024, Karine is nominated by the Swiss National Science Foundation as an Outstanding Female Academic.
For 2024-2025, she is a Visiting scholar at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, in collaboration with Marianne Blidon. For January 2025, Karine is a Visiting scholar at the City Institute at York University (CITY), Toronto, Canada, in collaboration with Alison Bain.
