Museum in a Disturbing Suitcase

image.jpgThe Luhansk museum has won a competition, and their new project “Museum in a Disturbing Suitcase” has received support from the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine. This project is about memory, loss, and resistance. It tells the story of the experience of forced evacuation, the power of dignity, personal stories, and cultural roots that remain with them even on the road. They are creating an archive of mobile memory of Luhansk region in cooperation with displaced libraries, archives, and universities. They are collecting oral testimonies, local narratives, personal belongings - everything that helps to record the truth, preserve the memory, and pass it on.

As part of the project, their plan is to

- Create two travelling exhibitions and scientific catalogues;

- A digital exhibition;

- A series of seminars on gender issues in museums;

- Project presentations in Lithuania and Ukraine;

- Production of promotional products, including a statuette of the Polovtsian sculpture “Chornukhy Madonna”.

This project is a continuation of their cooperation with the Universities of Fribourg and Geneva.

Their previous exhibition in collaboration with the Geneva Heritage Lab and the University of Geneva can be viewed here.
