Alessandro Casini graduated in medicine from the UNIGE in 2005 and completed his post-graduate training at the HUG, where he obtained an FMH speciality in internal medicine in 2011 and in haematology in 2013. After a research stay at the University of Leeds (UK) studying the structure of the fibrin clot, he completed a doctorate in medicine on hereditary fibrinogen abnormalities. He joined the HUG Division of Angiology and Haemostasis in 2015 as clinical associate, before becoming a staff physician in 2020. In addition to his clinical work, he leads and participates in a number of international studies on rare haemorrhagic diseases. Since 2022, he has been heading the "Fibrinogen and fibrin clot structure" laboratory, and develops translational approaches to better understand and treat these diseases. Privat-docent of the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine in 2020, then lecturer in 2022, he was appointed associate professor in the Department of Medicine in September 2025.
