Frédéric Grouiller obtained a degree in engineering combined with a master’s degree in medical imaging from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Angers in 2005. In 2008, he completed his PhD thesis at the Functional and Metabolic Neuroimaging Laboratory of the Grenoble Neuroscience Institute, focusing on pre-surgical brain mapping. He continued his career at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine with a post-doctorate dedicated to the development of non-invasive techniques for locating brain functions in people with epilepsy or tumours, and contributed to the scientific and technical development of clinical and neonatal functional imaging.

In 2016, he joined the UNIGE Swiss Centre for Affective Sciences (CISA) as operational manager of the MRI platform of the Brain and Behaviour Laboratory (BBL), where his research was focusing on the spatio-temporal characterisation of brain functions using multimodal imaging, and on the integration of virtual reality with neurofeedback to develop new therapeutic approaches for children. Since 2023, he has been physicist in charge of the HUG-UNIGE MRI section of the CIBM - Centre for Biomedical Imaging. He has long been involved in the development of Ultra High Field MRI, and chairs the MRI Platform Advisory Committee at Campus Biotech. In October 2025, he was appointed assistant professor in the Department of Radiology and Medical Informatics at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine.
