Marco Pons is from Ticino, and studied medicine at the University of Zurich, graduating in 1985. He continued his training in internal medicine and pneumology in Zurich, Marseille and Berlin, obtaining the title of FMH specialist in internal medicine and pneumology in 1993. Marco Pons was successively appointed Head of Pneumology at the Ospedale Regionale in Lugano in 1997, Head of Internal Medicine and Head of the Department of Medicine in 2006, and Medical Director of Lugano Hospital in 2011. His interests focus on lung diseases, in particular pollution and respiratory disorders of central origin. A pre-graduate lecturer at the Respiratory Unit of the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine, Marco Pons was appointed adjunct professor in the Department of Internal Medicine Specialties (now the Department of Medicine) in 2012. He retires in September 2025.
