Marco Pons is from Ticino, and studied medicine at the University of Zurich, graduating in 1985. He continued his training in internal medicine and pneumology in Zurich, Marseille and Berlin, obtaining the title of FMH specialist in internal medicine and pneumology in 1993. Marco Pons was successively appointed Head of Pneumology at the Ospedale Regionale in Lugano in 1997, Head of Internal Medicine and Head of the Department of Medicine in 2006, and Medical Director of Lugano Hospital in 2011. His interests focus on lung diseases, in particular pollution and respiratory disorders of central origin. A pre-graduate lecturer at the Respiratory Unit of the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine, Marco Pons was appointed adjunct professor in the Department of Internal Medicine Specialties (now the Department of Medicine) in 2012. He retires in September 2025.

Reforming for better training: medical education reinvents itself

The Faculty of Medicine is embarking on an ambitious reform of medical education. This project, called ENSI 23-27, aims to meet current needs while incorporating the challenges of artificial intelligence and changes in healthcare practices. Major discussions are also underway on the 1st year of medical studies, in Geneva as elsewhere in Switzerland.

Antoine Flahault: looking back on twelve years at the head of the Institute of Global Health

In 2014, Antoine Flahault was tasked with creating and developing the Institute of Global Health (ISG) at the Faculty of Medicine. On his retirement from the UNIGE and the HUG, he looks back on the creation of an innovative institute at the heart of international Geneva, the challenges of scientific communication and the threats that multilateralism in health is currently facing.

Bringing together research on skeletal muscle and movement

The Centre of Research on Skeletal Muscle and Movement (CR2M) aims to understand and promote human mobility. Biologists, physicians and movement specialists will work together to propose new therapies for muscle and movement disorders. An inaugural symposium on 17 October marks its official launch.
