Christian CHUARD

Christian Chuard studied medicine at the UNIGE and obtained his federal diploma in 1985. He went on to specialise in internal medicine at Fribourg Cantonal Hospital and the HUG, before joining the HUG Division of Infectious Diseases as an SNSF fellow. His research focused on foreign body infections. After receiving a grant from the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS), he completed his studies at Duke University Medical Center (USA) in the Diagnostic Microbiology Laboratory. 

Since 1995, Christian Chuard has been Head of Infectious Diseases and Infection Prevention (hospital epidemiology and hygiene) at Fribourg Hospital, where he has held the position of Staff Physician, before becoming Senior Physician in 2020. At UNIGE Faculty of Medicine, he was appointed privat-docent in 2006, then adjunct professor in the Department of Medicine (then called the Department of Internal Medicine Specialties) in 2012. He retires in September 2025.
