Andrea TROMBETTI
Associate Professor
Department of Medicine
Andrea Trombetti obtained his MD from the University of Lyon in 1997, then specialised in rheumatology and bone diseases. He joined the HUG Division of Bone Diseases in 1997, was appointed Staff Physician in 2010, then Senior Staff Physician in 2014. He currently works within both Divisions of Bone Diseases and Geriatrics. With extensive clinical experience, he also serves as lead for the Multidisciplinary Consultation for Phosphocalcic Metabolism Disorders and Rare Bone Diseases.
His research initially focused on the skeletal manifestations of renal failure and other conditions such as organ transplantation, before turning to the study of sarcopenia, falls, and nutritional issues in older adults. A research experience in 2013–2014 at Tufts University (Boston, USA) further strengthened his expertise in sarcopenia and frailty. His current work centres primarily on the prevention of falls and fractures in older adults. He has notably demonstrated that the Jaques-Dalcroze eurythmics — an approach consisting of experiencing music through whole-body movement — reduces the risk of falling.
Appointed Privat-Docent at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine in 2014 and Lecturer in 2017, he became Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Rehabilitation and Geriatrics in 2020, then Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine in March 2026.
