Maroun is a senior researcher specializing in systems genetics and human genomics. In the Frayling lab, he focuses on deciphering the genetic architecture of obesity and metabolic disorders by integrating large-scale human biological data with clinical phenotypes. He combines this translational work with a strong technical focus on data strategy, designing cloud-native workflows across multiple trusted research environments to enhance statistical genetics and biomarker discovery.

Prior to his current role, Maroun held a senior scientific program manager position at EPFL. There, he orchestrated large-scale multi-omics initiatives and strategic industry collaborations to identify novel disease intervention targets. His research during this period led to key studies on the genetics of aging and metabolism. A full list of his publications can be found on his Google Scholar profile.

Maroun obtained his PhD in Molecular Life Sciences from EPFL in 2016, under the joint supervision of Prof. Bruno Lemaitre and Prof. Bart Deplancke, where he applied systems genetics methodologies to uncover the genetic underpinnings of immunocompetence variation.

Maroun is also fluent in the applications of artificial intelligence in biomedical research. For more details, please visit his personal website.
